From Oakland City Neighborhood, Lil Baby has topped charts and sold out tours all across the world. This latest documentary released Friday (Aug. 26th) shows how Lil Baby rose to fame. The 93-minute film directed by Karam Gill features previously unseen footage of the rapper as a child.

The film starts off showing us present-day Lil Baby with his child and he speaks about how being a father is one of his biggest motivating factors and we soon learn that Baby never wanted to actually rap, but was rather persuaded by his peers to pick up a microphone.

In the documentary, Young Thug makes multiple appearances to speak on his relationship with Lil Baby, Thug and Baby have been friends since elementary, and at one point Thug exclaims “I would’ve given him any amount of money to get out the streets”, when referring to Lil Baby’s disdain for rapping. Lil Baby was already making millions of dollars before he picked up a microphone in the streets and it was extremely difficult to justify the transition to music.

We are introduced to Lil Baby’s late friend Lil Marlo who began rapping around the same time and was a huge influence on keeping Baby motivated, the pair shared some iconic tracks together and their chemistry was undeniable. Quality Control founder Pierre “P” Thomas decided to sign both of them to his label as he saw major potential in the duo (as separate acts). Unfortunately Lil Marlo passed away in 2017, right around the same time he started to become famous and recognized for his music.

Present-day Lil Baby has shown his growth, creativity, and resilience in the game as he still continues to put out chart-topping hits including his latest single release “Detox”. Lil Baby has always been about his business and his future seems bright as 4PF and Quality Control continue to sign upcoming rappers off the streets of Atlanta, a “diamond in the rough” philosophy for finding talent adopted by Quality Control Music founders Pierre “P” Thomas and Kevin “Coach K” Lee.
